Constructed of fully vitrified porcelain that is achieved by using controlled kiln firing to first close and then eliminate the microscopic pores of the clay. The result is a very dense, strong structure which absorbs no flavors, odors or stains, allowing you to crush various ingredients without the transfer of flavors from one ingredient to another. In fact, they are so resistant to any residue contamination; they are used in the pharmaceutical industry. The pestles are made with a traditional beech wood handle, left unfinished for a non-slip grip. Made in England.
