We are super excited to welcome Chef Jonny Giordani for the first installment of a series exploring the varied regional cuisines of Italy.  As charming as his food is delicious, he'll take us first to Rome--the epicenter of high cuisine that fed and nourished popes--where simply prepared seasonal ingredients have always prevailed.

On the menu:

Fried Zucchini Blossoms with fresh mozzarella and Mediterranean anchovies

Roman Style Semolina 'Gnocchi' Cacio e Pepe with a Pecorino Romano and Parmigiano Reggiano fonduta

'Agnello Scottadito' 48hr marinated lamb chops with extra virgin olive oil, rosemary and garlic served with a Mediterranean salad of rucola, fennel and capers

Classic Tiramisu with espresso dipped ladyfingers layered with mascarpone cream

ABOUT THE CHEF
I am from Rieti, a small town in the middle of Italy. My passion for cooking started when I was very young.  During the weekend my parents would drop me off at my grandmother's house; it was during these moments together that I discovered my love for cooking. At the age of fifteen I decided to go to school and pursue my passion.  My life was a promise I made to my grandmother that I would never stop trying, never lose my passion for cooking and never stop pursuing my dreams!

I started working as a cook in 1996 and traveled all around Europe working, learning and feeding my hunger/knowledge for food! In 2003 I visited NYC on vacation and dined at "Cipriani Dolci" where I met Dennis (a chef working at Cipriani) who told me that there was a chance to work with them. So I DID!

I went back to Italy and sold my restaurant (a 30 seat classic Italian "trattoria" with homemade wine, organic and local product) and moved to New York. After almost 5 years with Cipriani, we parted ways.  I worked around NYC kitchens, from pizzerias to high end restaurants -  constantly improving and learning different styles and techniques, learning the secrets and the tricks to perfect my craft.

In 2010 I  was approached to audition for Food Network's Chopped. Though skeptical, I decided to give it a shot. I went to "Chopped" and won but it was more than just the $10,000 I won on "Chopped",  it was also my confidence that I won back, my love for food and my passion to create.

This event is done in conjunction with our friends at Made in Calabria --importers of authentic Italian bergamot and curators of immersive culinary experiences both here at home in the US + overseas in their homeland .
